The present guideline seeks to describe the main components and the general installation procedure of the BIPV shading elements structure designed for the Pikermi (Greece) demo site in the frame of BFIRST project. Nevertheless, the components, materials and their installation process may vary in different cases, thus the information provided in this document should be handled with care, adjusting the installation with regard to the existing wall composition in each case. The aim of this guideline is not focused on the installation process of the BIPV modules, but the construction process of the substructure needed to install them.
The products consist of a versatile PV shadowing system for façade integration over windows, on balconies and other uses. The basic unit consists of a single PV string encapsulated within a fibre-reinforced matrix. The mechanical joining of basic units among themselves allows a wide range of geometrical configurations and a perfect adaptation to different shapes: flat, wedge, canopy, folding screen, etc. As examples, two different solutions of shading elements have been designed and installed. This document describes the construction design process relative to these BIPV shading systems.

Due to its high flexibility, the system can potentially be integrated in several ways. Thus, basic units need for each case a specific aluminium structure to make possible the installation on façade, over windows or on balconies.
The following mounting sequence is based on the balcony integration example:
1. Assembly of basic units within the specific mounting structure adapted to a certain use: place the panel in its position and insert the threaded rod, placing the nylon white support, the nylon washers between each hinge, the M8 nuts and serrated washers as described in following pictures.
2. Assembly of one module to another with screws DIN933M6X10A2 and washers following the next detail.

3. Fixing of the PV element as a whole to the façade’s surface, window or balcony by means of mechanical anchoring.
