a06 - Non-ventilated facade – heated buildings

Introduction

In middle and southern Europe, massive walls with outside plaster or outside thermal insulation plus plaster are very common.

Building physics

Different type of walls are:

  1. without additional insulation but made of light weight insulating stone
  2. without additional insulation but made out of insulating material (XPS)
  3. heavy stone as bearing wall with outside thermal insulation
  4. light stone wall as filling between concrete structure with outside thermal insulation

Illustration of two massive wall types. a. XPS wall with armoured plaster, b. light stone or cellular concrete wall, c. light stone block.

Relation with PV-Module

The PV modules are mounted against the wall and don’t have an additional function. Actually this application is not a BIPV solution.
